Vice President Human Resources, ATCO Group
I was lucky to grow up on a farm in Manitoba. I learned to never be afraid of hard work and with 7 girls in the family there was no such thing as a girl or boy job, we just got things done. I moved to Winnipeg at the age of 17 to attend the University of Manitoba. After many years of study I qualified as an actuary and pensions has been my passion for most of my career.
I started my career as an analyst with Great West Life. However, the call of the Rocky Mountains was strong and I moved to Calgary and worked as a pension consultant for 10 years. Consulting is a great learning environment and I enjoyed working with diverse clients on many challenging issues. However, long hours and travel was not easy with a young family so I moved into a corporate role with ATCO who had been my client for many years.
ATCO Group is a diversified global corporation delivering service excellence and innovative business solutions in Structures & Logistics, Electricity, Pipelines & Liquids, and Retail Energy. It’s a great company and has provided me with a lot of opportunities. My current role is Vice President Human Resources. I lead our Centres of Excellence in Compensation, Pension, Recruiting, Labour Relations as well as HR Information Systems and Shared Services. ATCO’s challenges include changing our corporate culture to be nimbler and customer focused, and transitioning into a more global organization.
I have always placed a high value on volunteering and am an active participant in the pension industry. I am on the Board of Directors of the Association for Canadian Pension Management and I enjoy speaking at industry events.
I live in Bragg Creek, Alberta with my husband and teenage daughters, one of whom is at the University of Alberta School of Business. We love camping, hiking, and of course our 2 dogs.
