Barb joined the Benefits & Planning Division of the Angus Watt Advisory Group in 2004, bringing with her a background in small business, business development and an expertise in project management. She is licensed in Life and Accident & Sickness insurance in the province of Alberta and has her Group Benefits Associate (GBA) designation. Barb's role as an advisor to organizations on their Group Benefits programs and Retirement Savings plans involves daily contact with the Human Resources and financial decision makers within these groups. Recommendations made to these clients often involve their concerns relating to the attraction and retention of employees, total compensation strategy and designing benefit programs that take into consideration the generational variation amongst employee groups.
Barb’s background prior to joining the insurance industry included earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Alberta, following through on a lifelong passion for the study of human behavior. She volunteered with the Canadian Mental Health Association and the public school system as a community and special needs educator. Her interest inthe psychosocial factors at play in the world of personal and career development have recently led her to delve into the critical importance of EQ (emotional intelligence), which many theorists predict to be the new driving force of intelligence for the 21st century.
